Opera, bha...

Duddie's picture

Opera Software, the makers of Opera internet browser, is convincing EU commissioners that Microsoft is bad, bad again because they put IE together with Windows. I am not a big M$ fan and I do consider IE to be one of the worst browsers. But what Opera Software demands from EU is sick. They just asked to have Microsoft not remove IE from Windows, but rather package it together with other browsers to give them competitive edge. Are those guys sick or what?
Maybe every maker of calculator, every maker of text editor and every maker of clock software should have right to include their piece of work together with Windows? Why not... just free distribution for everyone because Microsoft will have to pay for it.
Opera Software do not realize that they sell a commercial product and they should be able to compete with others the same way as shoemakers do compete with each other. Recently I have bough a mobile phone and I got a free pair of slippers with it. Should Nike or Ecco shoemakers sue my phone dealer because he did not bundle demo version of their shoes together with my phone?

Or maybe I am wrong? Maybe Opera Software wants to deliver a free fully functional version of their browser to all users of Windows?

Google - A Threat To The World

Some idiots that call themselves professors and scientists and do research using public money claim that Google is a big threat to the world as they control infomation, search engines and many other things.  read more »

What Games Teach Us

Duddie's picture

Basically I hate gaming. From time to time I will try some game but I will get bored very soon. Also the way I play games, cannot be considered "normal" as I am trying to always abuse the game world and if the game world is limiting me in the way I want to play game then I am no more interested in playing it.
Anyway, recently I have tried 3 more games: Sim City Societies, City Life 2008 Edition and Virtual Villagers 2.  read more »

Living In Garbage Dump

Duddie's picture

When I was young I was living in communism. This mainly was proven by lack of everything and people were basically happy when they could buy the minimum set of things for living (bread, meat, milk, etc...). This for sure was not good and I do not miss this time, although when I recently went shopping I have realized that it had one good side... less garbage.  read more »

Trainz!

Duddie's picture

While iKaz is catching up on nutritious food while enjoying news on CNN and wandering the streets of USA, there are events taking place in Tokyo!!!

As Xinhua agency reports:
"The 7:55 a.m. blackouts, which happened between Nakai Station in Shinjuku district and Toshimaen Station in Nerima district, also forced about 1,300 passengers to be evacuated, Kyodo News reported."

Just wondering if it is the line that gives Davide San troubles all the time!

PS. I really could not resist to mention it :)

Exploration Of Music

Duddie's picture

I have never been listening to any particular genre of music however I when I start to like one song I usually try to listen to complete discography of the artists. This way in past I have discovered Sisters of Mercy, RMB and Tori Amos which became my all time favourite artists.
Recently (due to my reconvalescence period after operation) I had more time to catch up on listening to music.  read more »

Vista - Experience Pain

Duddie's picture

So, I got a new notebook... Acer Aspire 5580. A nice piece of hardware with Core 2 Duo, GeForce 7300 and 2GB of RAM. Not too bad, considering that I need to use M$ Office :)
So HW is nice, but I could not find ANY notebook that I could buy with Windows XP. I just had to get one with Vista and this already scared me at the beginning. Every shop was showing me how good is Vista, that it can play DVD and also run videoconferencing AT THE SAME TIME!!! :)
Anyway... I am disappointed. Vista gives me nothing that XP was not giving me, but gives me headache.. HW is good enough but the system (bare and clean!) is constantly messing with HDD even being idle and with 2GB of RAM. IE7 crashed on me a few times... so replaced it with Firefox.  read more »

Dubai

Duddie's picture

Last week I went to Dubai for business trip. Last time I was there around May last year and I can say that the city changed a lot.
However, the worst thing I have experienced is not changing city but the heat that makes you suffer everywhere. It's is probably a demo version of hell and how you will get boiled in hell... but it is sufficient demo version. The temperatures there reach 50 C with humidity at 90% or so. This makes feeling like being slowly boiled or like a chicken on the grill. Walking 20 seconds from taxi to hotel is sufficient to make clothes wet. Just because the body explodes with sweat. I really wonder how people can live there... Getting to the street side is even worse. The temperatures next to the roads are crazy.  read more »

Why Oh Why?

Duddie's picture

Steve Jobs goes with his Safari Browser to Windows. First Bill G. went with his IE5 to Mac (nota bene better port than original Windows version) and now Apple heads the other direction.
I really do not understand it clearly as Safari is not the best browser out there. It has many issues, it cannot render pages well and even on OS X it is better to use Firefox.
The only reason for me is to validate the WebKit on the wider amount of platforms before integration of iPhone. Seems that iPhone must be somehow behind it and as iTunes were just a great choice for iPod user on Windows (who would use iTunes on Windows if not forced?!?!) then probably all this Safari thing is going to be some jump platform for iPhone integration on different systems.
Anyway... I do not really feel like going to be lab rat for Apple's Safari. Even on OS X I will stick to Firefox :)

Perdition

Duddie's picture

Yesterday I had interesting discussion with one gentleman from UK living in Asia for 18 years. In fact we discussed less about Asia but about how the world degrades. In his opinion his student times were terrible. Neo-nazis, communists, everyone expecting 3rd World War and so on, however today, with maybe more stable world the danger comes from low level of society. I fully agree on this matter and I can spot things how we degrade. It is enough to look at language that youngsters use. People stopped paying attention to grammar, correct spelling or even basic things like capitalization within sentences. I am not any good writer but at least I try to pay attention to basics. Other thing is handwriting. When I was young we were pushed by teachers to write in our notebooks with correct hand writing. So that we could use the notes and others could read them. Today youngsters (mostly) write like chickens with their legs. Even I have figured out change in my handwriting.  read more »
