V5 ?

I've been thinking about changing this site once again.
The main reason is that I notice some things not working quite as good anymore. Mostly having problems with the site not remembering my login (cookies I guess ?). Also the "Recent comments" area isn't up to date for non-registered users.
I suspect that this also depends on cookies and also on Drupal cache (which I have disabled anyway).

I'm thinking about moving back to Blogger which in the meantime has matured. It's easy now to redirect a sub-domain to Blogger (for example v5.kazzuya.com..) and user comments are finally embeddable to the blog entry's page (finally !!!).. also users can comment with their own Google accounts.. including myself of course.

The main problem would be to move the blog entries from Drupal to Blogger.. but I gave up on that already. I'd simply freeze v4.kazzuya.com and put a big link on top to redirect to the newest blog instead.. like I did for v3.kazzuya.com

I'm not sure what to do with kazzuya.com though. Right now it automatically redirects to the latest blog, but perhaps I should instead convert it to a master page with a big link to the latest blog and a list of previous blogs..

The Blogs' Fault

I spent this Saturday at home. Working on web stuff. Much of the work is done in background. Managing sites, adding them to tracking services, small cosmetic changes (the sidebar font is smaller now !).
I also wrote an update to TokyoClubbers.com, a site that is about a topic I sometimes touch on my blog (more on the older one thought).

On the web, popularity is the game. Nowadays, blog format is very popular but blogs are often just diaries, sites centered about an individual.
An individual may say interesting things on his or her blog, but unless a blog isn't clearly focussed on a specific topic, it's not easy to gain popularity.
I find this dispersion of focus frustrating. Keeping everything in one site helps to keep in touch with friends that stop by the blog. But to the outsiders, the blog has no personality, no meaning.  read more »

NetCatFight

I recently got involved into some heated debated on the net on the blog of some guy that I deem to be egocentric to the point that his reasoning is being obfuscated by his own ego.

The debate is not closed yet, but it was interesting to argue in a blog's commentary context. Here are a few things I learned from this:

  • A person's blog is a person's home: get ready to have to argue against him or her supporters.. which is basically all of them because..
    • Most people following someone's personal blog are supporters
    • Most against the blog's owner aren't going to criticize him on his own blog, especially when supporters are already active
    • Some sort of mob is created at some point you will be reminded how many (biased) people are against you
  • Human spoken and written language can be interpreted in many ways. Holy wars are still being fought because of different interpretations of some ancient fiction ! (read: The Bible)
  • Italians are very proud people (it's an Italian blog). They are very proud but not very self-critical and hardly ever efficient.
