Google - A Threat To The World

Duddie's picture

Some idiots that call themselves professors and scientists and do research using public money claim that Google is a big threat to the world as they control infomation, search engines and many other things.

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22876512-663,00.html

The same idiots (communists) would like that search engines were controlled by public bodies like universities or so.

I have news for them:

1. Using Google is voluntary activity, if you do not want use your own search engine.
2. Using Google Mail for doing business is stupid. But if someone does that - it is his own will.
3. Everyone can create search engine. So do your own and stop using Google if you feel that they breach your privacy.
4. If you are afraid that Google will reveal your searches for child porn, then I say: Google should work with governemnts to release such information and chase bastards like you.

I have no problems with my privcay. I use Google, I use GMail, I even can have chip implanted in my head if it will stop me from carrying driver license, passport, credit card, etc. I am not a criminal and I am not afraid of any of my activities that could cause me trouble.

And if some professor is so afraid about his activities... then maybe police should have a closer look at what is he searching in Google!

Or maybe it is another EU communist that wants to control everything by governemnt... I dunno what could be worse.

I think the argument is that

Davide's picture

I think the argument is that you cannot always assume that it's all done for actual good. A corrupted government may decide to abuse of the power given and use it to tame its citizens.
If you think that countries will go to war for oil which may be good for the country, but it's generally great business for the richerst..

You may not be a criminal today, but law is not always fair and someday someone may decide that people that download shitty mp3s without paying need to be put in jail.. 8)

It's true that too much

rasty's picture

It's true that too much power can lead to threats, but Google is still a googol times better than what we had before: corrupted search engines that returned only the results they were paid to.

We chose to use Google because it returned better results, and they've stuck to that policy because it's really the only thing that holds people to a good service: its quality!

So, Google got to power thanks to natural selection. As Mr. Diddie rightfully said, if it's not good anyone can make a better one and we'd just stop using it.
More or less!

More scary is that

Duddie's picture

More scary is that shit:

And on the other side, since iDavide San is so much into web development those days, maybe he could develop search engine as well :P

I'm afraid he'd only develop

rasty's picture

I'm afraid he'd only develop a clubs & miniskirts search engine!
Well, the latter may be ok actually...

You can probably get a lot

You can probably get a lot more specific information about someone from public records kept by governments, hospitals, courts, credit beaureus etc etc...

There are companies that specialise in gathering that kind of information for a price and not all of it is computerised or accesssable on the internet.

Anyway I am agreeing with duddie, the less secrets there are in the world the less problems there will be.

East Germany secret police

Davide's picture

East Germany secret police used to monitor, collect and archive a lot of info about (some of ?) its citizens. Including jars with pieces of used clothing so that a dog would be able to sniff out that person. Now we don't live in a repressive communist state, but some personal informations in the wrong hands can create a lot of problems.
Information can be manipulated by accurately selecting what to release and by downright doctoring it. There is a lot of unscrupulous people in this world and some of those probably end up in politics ;)

My real issue with privacy of course is about relationships, but I guess a good citizen is supposed to get married ;)
The Internet framework makes it possible to discover cheating partners, but at the same time it can fuel wrong assumptions.

It's a double edged sword and I don't believe anyone that claims he or she could live a completely transparent life.

why do you have an issue

why do you have an issue with privacy regarding relationships?

Romantic relationships are

Davide's picture

Romantic relationships are the only relationships that require severing previous ties without any margin for error. Communication has to stop and accumulated mail exchanges and pictures have to be flushed away.
..leak of informations in those cases can be catastrophic.
As an example a few months ago somebody discovered an exploit in Winny, a major file sharing application in Japan. The exploit allowed to force sharing the whole harddisk. As a result there were a couple of cases of sharing of personal informations, very personal.
Try do an image search for "daiki kato winny" and if your SafeSearch filter is off, you can see somebody's sexual life exposed to everyone 8)

That was caused by an exploit, but nonetheless, it shows that, with intent, one's life can be made quite difficult.

uumm dunno about that. you

uumm dunno about that. you either have something to hide or you dont. if you yourself stay the same person and keep the same standards with every one of your relationships then i dont see how exposing details of your previous relationship can cause any problems. there are a lot of people who even while already married still keep in touch with their ex's who might already be married themselves to someone else. i think it is all about being mature and non-dramatic.

of course if you keep pictures of your sex life on your hard drive then you should not be ashamed to have them shared =)

Yeah right... just try to

Davide's picture

Yeah right... just try to bring out some ex gf pictures and you'll see what I mean 8)

what i said in my previous

what i said in my previous post is not based on assumptions, its based on facts. =)

"Friends"

Davide's picture

So you have an ex partner hanging around ?
That can happen, but I'm also talking about facts when I say that girlfriends hate to find out pictures of previous girlfriends. It's not just with me, it's a common thing !

No I dont have any

No I dont have any 'friends'.

That whole topic of 'hiding the past' just seems silly to me. What if people have children. Then they go separate ways. What are they going to do? Hide all the family pictures???

I agree. This way we can get

Duddie's picture

I agree. This way we can get to the absurd: I need to change bed, kitchen, burn house....

Family aside

Davide's picture

Obviously not. But romantic partners are usually not family !

Exceptions aside, most people would be rather jealous to find pictures of previous partners around the house or even just browsable on the harddisk.
Women will ask to be shown but then get pissed 8)
In fact I'd be a bit worried if the woman wouldn't care about me keeping such pictures !

Don't ask with whom he has

Duddie's picture

Don't ask with whom he has those relationships :)

Shit, you just reminded me

Davide's picture

Shit, you just reminded me !! ..you wrote all this BS and I remember something about you, some frivolous matters and not trusting unencrypted channels !

And now you can see the

Duddie's picture

And now you can see the difference and maybe understand what I really meant with this blog entry. If I want to have some secret, I am not going to send it through gmail, gtalk or pubilsh it on blogspot and then blame Google that they breach my privacy. If I have secret, I know which measures to take to protect myself. And the stupid part of society should be given nukes and send to some desert and let they try to enjoy them. It will only improve human genotype!
