A couple of days ago I finally asked to my department administrator (a serious name for a nice and tiny girl 8), if I could get a second monitor.
I was practically the only one left with one monitor, and I was starting to feel a bit uneasy.. was I missing on something ?

I only had one day to actually use the dual monitor setting and it seems like it's useful indeed. But more testing is necessary. Will it become a second nature ?!

I can't help but thinking that one of the reasons why dual monitors come so handy is the choice of Windows of having a window full come in foreground when one clicks on it.
I think there are utilities out there to tweak this behavior, but those never quite work for me.

Generally I think I do great switching around applications, but in some cases, when one has code in one window and documentation in the other window, then things tend to get pretty messy: copy, switch, paste, switch, forget, switch, switch, forget, learn, paste... ehhh !!

A coworker told me that he got so used to dual monitor that he finds it hard to code at home with one monitor ! Wow.. last thing I need is an excuse to buy a new PC at home ! (currently using a laptop.. with just one VGA port)

Yeah we all use dual

Yeah we all use dual monitors at work, still some applications dont work too well with the dual monitor setup even though its supposed to be handled automatically by the OS. For example I've seen perforce not being able to regain focus after being minimized from the secondary display.

Ahh I saw some weird

Ahh I saw some weird Perforce behavior the other day.. the list in the manual merge wouldn't let me select files for more than one second in some cases.. dunno.. I wonder if it was related to that.

Anyhow.. now I wonder how many monitors is too many !

Depends....

Depends... I think too many is when you have to walk to another monitor to see what you type :) Tho there are fresnel lens that you maybe can attach to 17th monitor that stands in the toilet :P

i'm actually reading this

i'm actually reading this from the restroom !

Standard monitors put

Standard monitors put vertically actually don't look that good.. at least not the Dell I have at work and home.
The problem is that sub-pixels are mixed (RGBRGBRGB) horizontally, so, when the monitor is rotated one gets to see whole sub-lines of one color.
It's not very obvious, but as a result the image doesn't look so good..

who is asking you to use

who is asking you to use clear type fonts?

ehe.. I tried disabling

ehe.. I tried disabling ClearType and it was the same.. it's not just the fonts..
