..same thing, again !!!!
Last month in San Diego. This today in a taxi in San Francisco.. but of course the receipts from taxis in San Francisco are pretty much useless. They give you some standard piece of paper that you have to fill yourself with things.
In Japan instead you get an actual printed receipt and the taxi driver will remind you as you leave the taxi to check if you are leaving any items behind.
I am an idiot, but Japan is definitely a great country !
I just want to go back home now ! (;_;)

taxi service sucks in most
taxi service sucks in most countries (at least all the ones i've been to), because all sorts of trashy weird people can end up in your car so the drivers have to be rough and indifferent and the car interior is probably very hard to keep in good condition.
if japan is different then it must be an exception. =)
Here is a taxi driver in
Here is a taxi driver in Kyoto.
He had a low-tech taxi that requires to actually open the door manually.
So he came out to do that and with an umbrella to make sure we wouldn't get wet as we got in.
Another shot. White gloves and the uniform.
I didn't pay attention to this, but I don't think all drivers wear gloves. They all wear some sort of uniform though, and the car is always clean. Sometimes even decorated with fake plants, etc.
yeah, looks like japan is
yeah, looks like japan is ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to taxis.
luckily in the US almost everybody has a car, and when going on business or vacation decent rental cars are easily available and affordable.
but for visitors who dont want the hassle of driving or looking for parking it can be a problem.
I should renew my Italian
I should renew my Italian driver license !
Great Country, indeed... too
Great Country, indeed... too bad they drive on the wrong side!!
Wow!
That's amazing... Very true what they say about Japanese efficiency, quality and service...
I live in England and while the taxis here aren't as bad as some I've heard about in the states, it's not exactly a pleasant experience... And general public transportation is usually late or never arrives..
Been meaning to visit japan to see all this first hand, but I don't have the funds to get there, stay there or do anything much... Hopefully sometime in the future :)
tokyo
It's not like you need a car in Tokyo at all anyway, the transport is amazing, it'll never let you down unless something big happens (earthquake, terrorist attacks, etc). It was great when I was there to know exaclty the time I could get somewhere, by the minute, that's something I never experienced before anywhere else. Even my 6 hours tokyo-fukuoka shinkansen (high speed train) trip arrived exactly at the minute printed on the ticket.
Subway, it's unbeliavable how fast the ticket machines work and even in the most crowded hours you can go through smoothly (being comfy in an overcrowded train is something else tho :p)
Taxis: I didn't take many, but I remember all the drivers being super polite, helpful and friendly. The last day I had to leave the appartment and pick a hostel, the driver even called them to get directions.
