Second and Third day at GDC

Just as I was going to move back to Gallery2, PicasaWeb extended the free space to 1GB (and counting). So, i could upload more pictures from GDC and San Francisco downtown around the GDC.

The second day was again about lectures. I started off with the Physics for Games Programmers tutorial, but quickly realized that it was going to be pretty basic, so I switched to Large-scale Engineering for Online and Offline Games. It was an interesting lecture, on how to distribute and organize workforces, in the same office or spread around branches.
What I didn't like much was some guy from Unreal, talking about pair programming as a way to get programmers to work with much less distractions. Nice.. for you !!!

On the third day (today), I wend for the Frostbite Rendering Architecture and Real-Time Procedural Shading and Texturing Techniques.. that disappointed me. There was a demo with some people having fun while doing war (nothing new here) and the procedural side of all was very limited. No technical insight whatsoever about procedural shading or textures. It was mostly about their graphic shader editor ..big deal !
Slightly more interesting was Athletic Performance: Intelligent Believable Characters, although it was more a showcase for Electronic Arts than anything else. Nonetheless it's good because next time I want to do something like that I can say to my bosses: "see, EA is already doing it !" 8)

Conference aside, I haven't really seen much of San Francisco. It's hard to get around without a car, and by 6PM one is already quite tired. But, I already saw the nice sides of SF, too bad for my coworkers !
