The Testosterone Issue
この夏スーパーショートパンツとハイヒールは流行です!
すばらしいじゃない?
This summer super-short pants and high heels are in fashion !
I think that that's pretty great !
外国人たちにはちょっときついかもしれない。
However to us foreigners it's probably a bit of an issue.
Myself, when I go outside, I find it hard to concentrate. Wherever I look, I see sexy girls !
Normally Japanese have less muscle and body hair than foreigners. Also, foreigners are definitely more aggressive types.
In short, foreigners tend to have higher testosterone levels.
自分は彼女に忠実だけど、普通の日本人より難しいかもしれない。
I'am a very faithful partner, but it's probably more difficult for me than for the average Japanese.
外国人は危ないかな?それは分からない。
So are foreigners dangerous ? I'm not so sure about that.
When hanging out at night in Roppongi, of course, there are a lot of tricky individuals. However, I don't think that it's a bad thing that I'm so attracted to females.
I think that being passionate is a very important thing. Unless one is an idiot, passion is good in life v(^o^;)

T-Minus how many days before
T-Minus how many days before Kaz explodes? Only time will tell. Shouldn't you be coding? 8P
but it's probably more difficult for me than for the average Japanese.
えぇ?! Are you sure of this? 8P A lot of Japanese guys aren't necessarily known to be the openly aggressive types ... They may very well be just not showing how they feel ... I can't imagine the women are dressing up in that fashion just to attract foreigners! 8P
I don't think that it's a bad thing that I'm so attracted to females.
Just watch out for those ladies who'll play you like a violin ... ;-)
T-Minus how many days before
I am "coding" ! ..I went out this weekend because I have a friend visiting, but I spent the day (including right now) working on the clubbing site.. going to release a version for cellphone soon.. I hope !
My point is that women can dress so nice because they don't get harassed as much..
Being played is part of the deal.. 8)
Mr Kaz, Dont make it sound
Mr Kaz,
Dont make it sound like some kind of complicated science. Men and women have been living on this planet for millions of years. =)
"In the end everything combines!!!"
Rince, I don't think Kaz is
Rince, I don't think Kaz is making it more complicated ... these are "pre-explosion" symptoms you're observing. :-) Everything in the mind starts to go critical then ... *BOOM* ...
How did I make it sound

Anyhow, I meant to say that it's normal that a woman at some point may use her sex appeal as a leverage.
normal that a woman at some
normal that a woman at some point may use her sex appeal as a leverage.
That's what I meant by being played ... or rather allowing the leverage to cause one's brain to shut down ... 8P You won't hear any sympathy from me!
I remember Mr Mike Malakhov
I remember Mr Mike Malakhov was saying: "men can be ugly, but rich and powerful"
I follow that line.. fack

Excuses! Of course you know I'm kidding. ;-) I've actually had to reduce the amount of time I code at home because my wrists are beginning to hurt/ache too much. I wonder if there are any sites out there that talk about good sitting posture that programmers should have...
My point is that women can dress so nice because they don't get harassed as much...
The fashion trends in your area seem to be different than in mine. People who dress in that "trendy" manner are more in the minority.
Being played is part of the deal
Wow ... I admire you're strength and bravery. I know I don't have the mental bandwidth for that! I already enough distractions ... like coding! ;-)
I saw very little of Kyoto
I saw very little of Kyoto but it seemed like girls were pretty much the same.
I think it depends on the area more than the city.
えぇ?You'd get slapped
えぇ?You'd get slapped by the ladies here if they knew you said that. 8P A few hours in Kyoto isn't enough to see the city ... and my guess is that given your time schedule the places you probably were at had more (Japanese) tourists visiting Kyoto than the normal populace. I've been to Tokyo quite a few times and I can tell you the fashion here is pretty different. 8P
Of Kyoto I only saw the
Of Kyoto I only saw the train station and the Hotel 8)
But in general, why would the fashion be much different ?
TV programs and fashion magazines are the same in the whole country.. and those are what mostly dictate the trends.
why would the fashion be
why would the fashion be much different?
This is the price you pay for staying mostly in Tokyo and not seeing other parts of the country ... 8P
..you didn't answer my
..you didn't answer my question though 8P
Why would women dress differently when they all buy the same magazines ?
Why would women dress
Why would women dress differently when they all buy the same magazines?
Well they all don't buy the same magazines. But using the magazine point of view, magazines (doesn't matter which country) tend to focus on what's important to that region, so that the fashion trends in Tokyo aren't necessarily the same one's in Kyoto.
Before I get to my main point, I'll use a more extreme (at last I think it is!) fashion example. When I visit Tokyo, it's not hard to spot the Ganguro type ladies walking about. But here in Kyoto it's very rare to see ladies dressing in that manner. Now throw in the "the nail that sticks out gets hammered back in" ... or the "fit in group mentality" that's in the culture, and it's not too hard to see why fashion trends tend to be regional.
My main point is that while Japan is essentially Japan, each region reflects it's own "culture" and viewpoint. Tokyo tends to reflect a more trendy, "anything can change in an instant" type culture (at least in the non-outskirt parts of the city), while Kyoto is a lot more "conservative" and tends to reflect this kind of "refined Japanese" and "change only if necessary" attitude. Actually, it's a bit hard to describe Kyoto ... Some of the Japanese folks that I know who moved here from Tokyo have expressed how they have a tough time adjusting to life in Kyoto. Since I'm not Japanese, I can't really appreciate what they mean.
If you have the opportunity (and have the guts), ask one of your Japanese female friends about the differences between the fashion trends in the 関東 (Kanto) and 関西 (Kansai) regions. After they've told you about that, ask them about the differences culturally. I think you'll be surprised as well as enlightened. ;-)
You came to Tokyo a couple
You came to Tokyo a couple of times. Been in Shibuya, saw a bunch of ganguro and that's it.
Fashion magazines are the same in the whole country. There is not Kyoto or Tokyo edition.
All they do is to aim at different age ranges and possibly social levels.
Of course, there is difference between social status, changes of mentality between different areas and so on.. but people at the same social level, and that live in the same kind of environment tend to put on the same things.
You make it sound like you are a fashion expert.. that's BS.. there is no hidden cultural secret, there is nothing special to discover. I go shopping with girls, check their magazines.. see how they think (sometimes they do !)
Hands on experience is what matters, everything else is conjecture.. i don't believe you !
8)
At times you always blow
At times you always blow what I say out of proportion. If I recall properly, I've been to Tokyo more times that you've been to Kyoto! Wasn't you're visit here was your first? 8P I used the ganguro as an example because it's very easy to quickly tell that certain fashion trends are regional. I've never claimed to be a fashion expert or anything! 8P
Of course there are those national magazines, but my point was that (from what I've seen) the magazine circulations alone and the fact that women all over the country might read them doesn't automatically mean that everyone is going to dress the same; it's not a school uniform ya know. ;-)
I just thought that your statement, "Why would women dress differently when they all buy the same magazines?" is very inaccurate ... My comments are from the fact that I've been to different parts of Japan and have had the opportunity to meet different people and to see the diversity that actually exists within the country.
My guess is that you are possibly mostly around women who essentially share the same tastes in fashion. You know, you don't have to believe me ... the evidence is out there if you'd only take time to look ... or if you take the time to ask your female female fashion divas ... ;-)
Ugh ... "female female
Ugh ... "female female fashion divas" should just be "female fashion divas" ...I shouldn't be typing so early in the morning.
It doesn't matter that I've
It doesn't matter that I've only practically passed by Kyoto once. What matters is the common sense.
The main source of fashion is magazines. Magazines are nation-wide publications.
A common complaint from foreigners about Japanese is that they seem all to look the same and dress in the same way. While this is not so clear cut, it's also true that girls tend to follow fashion very much. Japanese are relatively more conformist.
So, you could say that girls in other cities don't follow fashion as much as girls in Tokyo do, but you can't say that they have a different fashion because then they would have to have different publications to refer to.
This may not matter to you as a man.. but girls rely on magazines to dress and a lot more.
